Yoga facing the rice paddies
Tomás Mello Bryner began to study yoga in New York before spending several months in the Hridaya Yoga community in Mexico. In 2013, he went to India and followed yoga teacher-training courses in Rishikesh. He is also registered with the Yoga Alliance with a certificate of 500 hours of practice.
Today, Tomás teaches yoga in different places, including Comporta, where he created Yoga Shala.
“Shala” means home in Sanskrit and his is located in Torre. His wooden cabin is tucked away among the pines and the dunes, facing magnificent lush green rice paddies. It is an earthly paradise and a particularly inspiring place for yoga and meditation.
The Shala is open each summer from June to September and offers yoga classes every day (consult them for the programme). The styles practised are Hatha Yoga Flow and Vinyasa Yoga, with meditation at the beginning and end of each session.
Attending a group or private lesson with Tomás in this setting is a truly extraordinary experience. Mats are provided, so you can travel light and with an open mind!
Tomás also created the “Little Buda” project in 2015. This consists in bringing meditation into schools. The project is now present in many establishments and about 5000 children meditate in their classrooms.
